Rachel Andoscia
Rachel Andoscia graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She received a BA in Criminology and a MA in Forensic Psychology with concentrations in criminal profiling and domestic violence treatment plans. She has worked with a New York City Supreme Court in developing treatment programs for violent offenders of domestic crimes. In addition, Andoscia has over ten years experience in security management and has assisted many companies in areas of crime prevention, anti-drug policies and emergency preparedness.
Socrates Boussios
Socrates Boussios is a full-time Assistant Professor in the Liberal Arts department teaching Mathematics and Statistics at Briarcliffe College while simultaneously pursuing his Ph.D. in Mathematics Education at Columbia University. Boussios teaches a variety of mathematics courses: Calculus, Developmental Math, Introduction to College Math, Statistics, and Technical Math.
Rosemary Brown
Rosemary Brown has been teaching in the Liberal Arts Department at Briarcliffe College since 2000. Her credentials include a Master of Arts degree in English from SUNY Stony Brook (1986), a B.A. in English with a minor in Secondary Education from St. John's University (1980), and Permanent NY State Certification in English. Courses taught are include Composition I, Composition II, Technical Writing, Fundamentals of Communication, Critical Thinking, Developmental Reading, and English Skills. She has an extensive background in both English and American literature, has over six years of experience in high school teaching and has taught as an adjunct at Hofstra University.
James Burke
James Burke is currently an instructor in the Business Department of Briarcliffe College. He has taught full-time in both the day and the evening programs at the College for over 15 years. He teaches courses at all levels in the program including: Principles of Business, Intro to Management, Intro to Marketing, Advertising, Sales Management, Business Math, Business Communications and Quantitative Analysis. Burke holds an AAS degree in Business Administration from Suffolk Community College, a BBA and an MBA in Business Management from Dowling College. He is currently working toward his doctoral dissertation in International Business and Marketing Management at Pace University. Prior to teaching, he spent over five years as an Import/Export Manager.
Dr. Arlene Cassidy
Dr. A.K. Cassidy received her Bachelor’s Degree in Applied and Theoretical Mathematics from SUNY at Stony Brook University. She then completed her master’s in Economics and continued her education at SUNY Stony Brook. She completed her PhD. in Administration/Management with concentration in Economics/Mathematics at Walden University, Minneapolis, Minn. Dr. Cassidy has been teaching a variety business, economics and mathematics courses for undergraduates as well as graduates. She is also involved with research design and statistical analysis projects for varied clients, as well as mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. Along with this teaching background, she has served on several committees involving academic evaluation and program development, organized and chaired student activities, and worked with Cooperative education and student advisement.
Kevin Cronin
Kevin Cronin has been a Full Time Criminal Justice Professor at Briarcliffe since August, 2003. He has a B.S. in Criminal Justice and an M.A. in Criminal Justice Policy studies, both from the State University of New York. Cronin is also a graduate of the 187th session of the F.B.I.’s National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He was a highly decorated Police Lieutenant, retiring from the Suffolk County Police Department after 30 years in law enforcement. He served in various positions and ranks including 13 years as a Detective/Sergeant in the Homicide Squad. He directed some of the biggest investigations in the history of the Suffolk County Police Department such as the Richard Angelo “Angel of Death” case, the Suffolk Sniper case, and the Robert Shulman serial murder case. Professor Cronin lectured extensively at the Suffolk County Police Academy and he continues to be an active member of the faculty of the N.Y.P.D.’s Homicide School. He has been invited on several occasions to lecture at the F.B.I.’s National Academy. He has also received numerous departmental, federal and community awards.
Diane Del Monte
Diane Del Monte’s education includes a BS in Mathematics & Computer Science, MA in Computer Science from Hofstra University, and an MBA from Long Island University. She also holds NY State Certification in Secondary Education Mathematics. Her teaching experience includes five years at Briarcliffe College. She has taught courses in Technology, Mathematics and Business. Del Monte’s professional experience includes positions from Programmer to Lead Systems Analyst in Software, Systems, and Product Support. She is also a Textbook Reviewer.
Guy Demarco
Guy Demarco began teaching in 1996. He is a professional model maker, published author, galleried artist, and incurable collector of antique trains, soldiers and toys. He is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson HS, St. Francis College, with an MA from Manhattan College and sundry graduate courses from Temple Unit, Courant School on Mathematics and Physics at NYU, Yeshiva University, and Adelphi. He began teaching High School in 1961 and started as a College adjunct in 1966.
Rob Doran
Rob Doran began his career in the television industry as a camera operator and video editor. Doran worked for several years as a freelancer on many television productions for ABC, CBS, Fox News Channel, HGTV, Lifetime, Sportschannel, and The Travel Channel. In 1995, he took a full time position producing packaged news stories for Medialink Broadcasting. The video production arm of that company was purchased by MediaOnDemand.com during the dot com boom, and was responsible for the day to day operations of their television production studio at the Jacob Javits center. Since that time Doran has produced numerous Video productions and 3D animation for his Public relations and corporate clients. He is an Autodesk certified instructor for 3DS Max, and is co-author of the book “3DS Max 8 Revealed”.
Patricia Dreyer
Patricia Dreyer has an MS degree in Reading Education/Computer Education from Dowling College and a BS degree in Education for SUNY Oneonta. She is a member of the International Reading Association, a membership association of literacy professionals and has been an Assistant Professor who has taught at Briarcliffe College for over 14 years. Dreyer is in the Office Technology Department and teaches the computer applications classes. She also teaches Reading skills and the Software Environments class for the Technology department. She have been recognized in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" in 2004 and 2005. Teachers are selected for this honor because they “made a difference” in the life of one of their students. Dreyer was a “Career Education Corporation - Educator of the Year Nominee” for the year 2004. She received the "Outstanding Member of the Faculty Award", which was awarded at the 2003 graduation. That same year she was nominated for the "CEC Educator of the Year Award" from Briarcliffe, Patchogue. This award honors exceptional educators in the schools and colleges that are part of the CEC family.
Dr. Joseph Greco
Dr. Greco has taught English Composition, remedial writing and reading, creative writing, literature, film courses and art history at many colleges. He is an Associate Professor at Briarcliffe College. Dr. Greco is the author of “The File on Robert Siodmak in Hollywood: 1941-1951,” and is currently completing a work of fiction.

Mark Frascinella
Mark Frascinella has been with Briarcliffe College for two years, and is the Department Chair of Technology for both campuses. He holds a Master’s Degree in Management Engineering and a Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering & Astronautics. His computer industry certifications include Certified Novell Engineer, Cisco Certified Network Associate, and Cisco Certified Academy Instructor. Currently he is pursuing network security credentials. Although teaching and his students have been his main focus during the past several years, he has 30 years of industry experience in high technology applications, acting as Engineer, Programmer, Network Engineer, Project Manager, and Division Vice-President. Applications include LAN network design, substation automation software, military electronic power sub-systems, carrier communications systems, and radar and antenna systems. Frascinella’s outside interests include the company of a devoted wife of 35 years, social dancing, free-lance writing, and flying as a licensed pilot.
Tom Lucero
Tom Lucero has 15 years experience in the Information Technology field. He has worked as an IT consultant for KPMG and Deloitte and Touche, and is curently performing Information Security work at Citigroup. Lucero has earned his Master’s Degree in Computer Science from Hofstra University and holds industry certifications in Microsoft and Cisco networking, and in Information Security (CISSP).
Tanya Maurer
Tanya Maurer holds SAS/SDA New York State certification from CUNY Queens earned in May 2005. Her master’s degree is in secondary education with English concentration from Hofstra University earned in 1998. Her bachelor’s degree is in Arts and Letters in English Literature from SUNY Buffalo earned in 1996. She was inducted into the Educator’s International Honor Society, Kappa Delta Pi, in May 2005. She has been a member of LILAC. As well, Ms. Maurer has been developing and instructing online courses since September 2000.
David Naylor
David Naylor has worked for Briarcliffe College since March 2001. He is a Microsoft Certified Professional, a Certified Novell Administrator, and is A+ certified. He has earned a Master of Arts, in Communication, with distinction, from the New York Institute of Technology. In addition, Naylor won the C.E.C. Educator of the Year 2000 award for instructional excellence. Recently, he authored his first book entitled “Systems for Success.”
Joseph Newman
Joseph Newman has an M.B.A. in Finance (with distinction) from Pace University, NYC, New York, which he received in September 1979. He earned his B.B.A. in Accounting (minor in Finance) from Hofstra University, Hempstead, New York in June 1976. He has many years of business experience holding various corporate management positions. Currently, he has his own practice, serving clients with their financial planning, money management, and income tax planning needs. Professor Newman's areas of expertise include accounting, finance, investing, and mathematics. He received his Certificate in Management Accounting (CMA) in 1979, has completed the educational program for the Certified Financial Planner designation (CFP) in 1997 and is a Licensed Series 7 stock broker with the NASD. He has been teaching at Briarcliffe College since 2001 and is currently a full time instructor in the business department. He has received many awards and recognition for his innovative teaching methods. He is involved in many extra-curricular activities including Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), the Chess Club, and the Finance Club. He served as the Chair of the Faculty Senate during the 2004-2005 academic year and was the Grand Marshal of the 2005 graduation ceremonies. He also teaches as an adjunct professor in the accelerated MBA program at Dowling College, Oakdale, NY.
John O. Okpara
John O. Okpara, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Management and International Business in the Department of Business Administration at Briarcliffe College. He received his Ph.D. degree from New York University, an M.S. from State University of New York - Maritime College, an M.A. from the City University of New York – City College, and a DipTS (B.A. Hons) from the University of London- Berikbeck College. His teaching, research, and consulting interests are in the areas of Organizational Theory and Design, International Business, Human Resources Management, Organizational Change, Motivation and Job Satisfaction, Business Ethics, Cross Cultural Management, and Gender Issues. Dr. Okpara’s research publications have appeared in numerous Journals such as Women in Management Review, Information Technology & People, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Busienss in Developing Nations, and Journal of Management in Nigeria. His publications have also appeared in numerous national and international referee conference proceedings. He has served on review boards and /or as a reviewer for the Global Information Technology Management Association (GITMA) and Journal of African Business.
Nicholas Pasquarello
Nicholas Pasquarello brings twenty years experience in law enforcement to Briarcliffe. He holds an A.S. in criminal justice from Nassau Community College, and a B.A. and M.S. from the school of public service at Long Island University-C.W. Post Campus.
Victor Petrigliano
Victor Petrigliano brings eighteen years experience as an attorney specializing in criminal representation, real estate, and litigation. He holds an A.S. degree in criminal justice from Nassau Community College, a B.S. in criminal justice from St. John’s University and a J.D. from St. John’s Law School.
Shaun Rajan
Shaun Thomas Rajan is a math instructor with the Liberal Arts Department at Briarcliffe College. He graudated with a B.A. in Mathematics from CUNY Brooklyn College and earned a M.S. in Mathematics from New York University. Before joining Briarcliffe as a full-time instructor, he worked as an adjunct at Briarcliffe and also actively participated in the New York City Teaching Fellows program. His interests include watching and playing sports, traveling in the United States, sampling different cuisines, and of course, mathematics.
Jo-Anne Romano
Jo-Ann Romano has a large list of degree: A.A.S-Fashion Institute of Technology-SUNY; BS-Business Marketing-Empire State College-SUNY; BA-English-Empire State College-SUNY and MSEd-Dowling College She is a LAN adminsitrator for a remedial math lab at Suffolk Community College and she does corporate computer training for Price Waterhouse Coopers through LaGuardia Community College.
Robert W. Smith
Robert Smith graduated cum laude from Adelphi University with a BBA in accounting in 1973 after transferring from the University of Texas at Austin where he studied accounting for the first three years as an undergraduate. He graduated from CW Post with an MS in accounting and taxation in 1988. In 1984 he was outstanding graduate student at Post and was in Who’s Who in Graduate Schools in the US. Professionally, he was an auditor with Arthur Andersen & Co., a senior tax accountant with Bankers Trust Co.. He previously taught at St. Joseph’s College as an adjunct instructor of Accounting and Business, and a full time instructor at Berkeley College. He has been with Briarcliffe College since 1994, and as an Assistant Professor of Business Administration. Smith is a member of the American Accounting Association, the American Management Association, the Tax Institute and Accounting Institute of CW Post College. He has had the honor of receiving the following awards at Briarcliffe College: the Chancellor’s Award in 2001; Who’s Who in America for Professors for two years in a row (2004 and 2005); the very first recipient of Briarcliffe’s Crystal Apple Award; a mace bearer at graduation and performing the invocation at graduation.
Minna Seligson
Minna Seligson is an Associate Professor of Liberal Arts and Science at Briarcliffe College. She has been with the college for over 13 years and teaches all levels of English courses and Interpersonal Communication. She holds a Baccalaureate and a Masters degree from N.Y.U. Seligson also has a Permanent New York State teaching license for English grades 7-12 and has taught in the public schools. She was also an adjunct Assistant Professor of English at SUNY Farmingdale for about 4 years. She has been honored to be included in Who's Who Among American Teachers for 2005 and 2006, and Empire State Who's Who for the same years.
Art Simpkins
Art Simpkins graduated from Queens College in Flushing NY in 1977, with a BA in Computer Science. He is currently enrolled in a Master’s program in Information Technology at the American University in Buckhead, Georgia. While serving in the US Navy he graduated from Basic Electronics, Radar, and Advanced Radar Schools. Prior teaching experience in electronics and math included Suburban Technical School and Grumman Data Institute. He presently teaches electronics, computers, networking, telecommunications, and math at Briarcliffe. He was discharged from the US Navy and worked in the electronics and computer fields for Pan American Airlines and Hazeltine. He served as Chief of the Electronics Branch for the National Weather Service Eastern Region in New York with responsibility for installation and maintenance of radar, communications, computers and telemetry systems located at weather offices and airports throughout the region.
Stan Smith
Stan Stan Smith is currently the Coordinator of Technology at the Briarcliffe Bethpage campus. Stan has been with Briarcliffe College for 13 years as a full time faculty member and has been teaching at a college level for 15 years includinh being an adjunct at New York Institute of Technology. His background includes a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electronic Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston plus 20 years of field experience as a design engineer for telecommunications products, systems, and networks, including both Local Area Networks (LAN’s) & Wide Area Networks (WAN’s). Some of Stan’s accomplishments while in the field include layout and design of telecommunications systems for an X.25 network implemented by Manufacturers Hanover Trust, T-1 system design for IBM Corporation, and a network monitoring & management system for Citibank. Stan has attended training classes for MCSE, Cisco Network Security, and is certified in Network Essentials and scored a perfect 100% on the A+ core (hardware) exam. Presently Stan is pursuing his Master’s degree in Network Architecture and Design from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His interests include playing guitar, home improvements, and being with his family.
Maria Stio
Mario Stio has a wide range of teaching experience from teaching at a private business school for seven years before becoming an instructor at Briarcliffe College. She has been part of the Briarcliffe community for the last five years. In addition to teaching business/office technology courses such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Keyboarding and Introduction to Computers, she specialize in teaching medical courses to individuals seeking a career in the medical field. Having worked in the medical field for nine years, she have first-hand experience as a medical receptionist, medical assistant and medical biller. This experience allows her to share my knowledge and real-life situations with my students. Courses taught include medical terminology, medical coding, medical insurance procedures, medical billing (using The Medical Manager?), and medical transcription. As well as having earned a Bachelors degree from Dowling College, Stio is currently pursuing a Masters degree in School Counseling at Long Island University/CW Post with an expected graduation date of May, 2006. She is a current member of the American Counseling Association (ACA). The various coursework in the counseling program has added a new dimension to her teaching skills and my daily interaction with students.
Lorraine Tawfik
Dr Lorraine Tawfik enjoys teaching students of all backgrounds college mathematics as well as teaching math methods to students who are studying to become secondary math teachers, and has done so for the past 23 years. She is about to be promoted to Associate Professor in Mathematics at Briarcliffe College, where she has been teaching for the past 5 years. She also serves as faculty liaison to the College's Board of Trustees. She recently been admitted to the Manchester Who's Who in Higher Education. This is due to her teaching and research accomplishments, having recently completed her Ed. D in Math Education at St. John's University. ( Feb 2005). Dr. Tawfik also has a Master's in Applied Math and Statistics from SUNY Stony Brook, another Master's degree in Materials Science Engineering from Stony Brook and a Master's degree in Biostatistics from McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. Dr. Tawfik also serves as Long Island Chapter Secretary and is on the Executive Board of ASM( American Society for Materials/Metals) , having been a member for 10 years. Dr Tawfik also has membership in other related mathematical and educational organizations including AERA (American Educational Research Association), AWM (Association for Women in Math), and ASA (American Statistical Association).
Mary Vacca
Mary Vacca is an Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Liberal Arts and Sciences/Criminal Justice Department. She has taught at the college level for 30 years and has been at Briarcliffe College for 14 years. Professor Vacca received her B.S. from St. John’s University and her M.S. from Russell Sage College.
James P. Verdon
Since joining the full time faculty in 1998, Professor Verdon has taught Advanced and Introductory Networking and Programming courses and Business and Office Technology courses. Professor Verdon is the Founder and Faculty advisor to the Technology Club @ Briarcliffe College and the Radio Station @108.3 FM on your radio dial and will be starting the Technology Music Group this coming academic year. While working as Senior Global Systems Analyst for Barclays Bank on Wall Street, Professor Verdon attended Adelphi University for his MBA in Global Banking and as Manager of Information Systems and Research he at Hofstra University, he attended the school for his MS in Education and attended Briarcliffe college for his Microsoft MCSE training. Professor Verdon is also a Certified Cisco Academy Instructor. Most recently Professor Verdon was acknowledged for his contributions to the Concepts of Database Management fifth edition text. On the civic side Professor Verdon is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Nassau County Police Activity League.
Dr. Allen B. Zilbert
Dr. Allen B. Zilbert has been in the computer field since 1980. He holds a doctorate in computers from Columbia University. Besides his degree in computers, he has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from St. Johns University. At Briarcliffe College, Dr. Zilbert is an Associate Professor in the Technology Department. In addition to his teaching responsibility, he also is the Director of Academic Portal and Web Systems. Dr. Zilbert’s expertise is in software development. In this concentration, his specialization is in Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and bar code. While being in the business sector, he has developed applications for hospitals, insurance companies, hotels, lighting manufacturers, and pen distributors. Also, he was involved with the conversion of business applications written in COBOL for Y2K compliance.
Mark S. Zablocki
Mark Zablocki received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972, and Master of Business Administration in 1986, both from Dowling College in Oakdale, NY. He has held varied positions in the Information Technology industry, including Network Support Engineer for Chase Manhattan Bank, during and after its merger with Chemical Bank. He has also served as a Project Manager for IBM, and a consultant to CMP Publications. He has been a network engineering instructor for over six years, and holds numerous certifications in Novell, TCP/IP, Linux, and various Microsoft products. His course experience includes all industry standard networking products, as well as physics, and is a CompTIA Certified Technical Trainer (CTT+).
Dr. George Weissinger
Dr. George Weissinger brings 26 years experience as a criminal investigator, a probation and parole officer and an FBI special investigator. He holds a B.A. and M.A. in Sociology from CUNY-Queens College and a Ph.D. from the School of Arts and Sciences from New York University, specializing in deviance and criminal justice studies.
